Petr Matěják studied in Philadelphia at the Curtis Institute of Music and at the Berlin Academy of Music Hanns Eisler. He was influenced by the violinist Václav Hudeček, with whom he often gives concerts. Before he joined the Konzerthausorchester, he was first concertmaster of the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin for three years.
