Edgar grows up with his mother and uncle - his father was killed in the war - in Steinhammer Straße in Dortmund in the 1950s. Later, he is supposed to take over the barbershop or, if he misbehaves, be sent to the pütt as punishment. He, his childhood sweetheart Nelly and his best friend Jürgen - they all have enough of the poor confinement and squalor of the neighborhood and dream of leaving it all behind. When Edgar gets the opportunity to learn window dressing and finds patrons, the door to the Düsseldorf artist scene opens. But Edgar is different from the offspring of wealthy families, and his uncontrolled nature is always causing trouble.

An event by Literatur LIVE in cooperation with Kiepenheuer & Witsch Verlag, Argon Verlag and Thalia Buchhandlung.
