Kalle Kalima celebrates his 50th birthday with his 51st appearance at Jazzkeller 69. The Finnish guitar virtuoso, who has lived in Berlin since 1998, is one of the most interesting representatives of the European jazz scene. His music combines elements of jazz and rock in an exciting way. The decisive factor, however, is a good dose of craziness - Finnish creativity. Kalima is known above all for his versatility.

Kalle made his first appearance at the Jazzkeller Treptow on June 11, 1999 with the trio Momentum Impakto. It was not until 2010 that he played at Jazzkeller 69 with his trio Klima Kalima, formed in 2000 with Oliver Potratz and Oliver Steidle. The band won the New German Jazz Prize in 2008, among other awards. Together with Chris Dahlgren and Eric Schäfer, he founded the trio Johnny La Marama. He has toured with this band for the Goethe Institute in South America, Japan, Iran and Central America.

He is a member of "A Novel of Anomaly" with the Swiss singer Andreas Schaerer. The trio with Andreas Schaerer and bassist Tim Lefvebre released the album "Evolution" in 2023, with which they are on tour.
Kalle Kalima currently also performs regularly with his current groups Tenors of Kalma (with Jimi Tenor) and KUU! (with Christian Lillinger, Frank Möbus and Jelena Kuljic). He also plays in his chamber music quartet K-18, which won the Finnish EMMA Prize for Jazz in 2013.

He is a sought-after guest musician and has performed with Ensemble Resonanz, NDR Big Band, Jason Moran, Jim Black, Anthony Braxton, Leo "Wadada" Smith, Peter Brötzmann, Tony Allen, Ernst Bier, Ronny Graupe, Uli Kempendorff, Moritz Baumgärtner, Phil Donkin and Tomasz Stanko, among others. In 2019, he composed the music theater piece "Dido and Aeneas, remembered" for Opera Lyon and the Ruhrtriennale. He has been a lecturer in jazz guitar at the University of Lucerne since September 2017.
