Solo Debut: Piano Works by Schubert, Janáček, Messiaen
The young Israeli pianist Itai Navon, who studied with Sir András Schiff at the Barenboim-Said Akademie, makes his solo debut at the Pierre Boulez Saal. His program is centered around Leoš Janáček’s On an Overgrown Path. In this cycle of autobiographical piano miniatures, written between 1900 and 1911, the com poser reflects his memories of his daughter, who had passed away not long before.
The concert also includes musical portraits of the tawny owl and woodlark from Olivier Messiaen’s famous “Catalogue of Birds” as well as Schubert’s “Gastein” Sonata of 1825.
