The Insisting Body

Each day, the artist remained motionless in a public space for a set duration – starting at one hour, with the time gradually being reduced to fifteen minutes by the final day. In this way, the body became both a witness and an archive.

Rather than merely depicting violence, the work explores how violence persists in places through repetition, memory and institutional structures. The project understands choreography in its original sense: as the inscription of a place through the body. Through stillness, exhaustion, sound, projected documentary material and spatial interventions, the performance unfolds as a living cartography. It poses the question of what remains once the violence has disappeared from view.

As an expanded lecture-performance and installation, the work combines performance, documentation, research and audio description, inviting the audience to reflect on the passage of time, the act of bearing witness and the politics of visibility.
