Intangible cultural heritage in the open air museum

Since ancient times, wood has been processed in charcoal kilns into easily transportable and hot burning charcoal. Now such a charcoal kiln is in operation again in the museum village.

Last year, the apprentice in the Düppel Museum Village delivered his journeyman's piece: a charcoal pile built in the traditional manner. Now he is demonstrating his skills as a charcoal burner. On October 8 and 9 (Saturday/Sunday), the charcoal kiln will be in operation all day.

With the charcoal kiln, the Stadtmuseum Berlin and the active members of the open-air museum are carrying on an intangible cultural heritage recognized by UNESCO and cordially invite you to be there. By the way, at the same time a rare opportunity to get handmade, high-quality beech charcoal!
