Hamed Abdel-Samad analyzes the history of Islam to show what awaits Europe. Whether medieval or enlightened Europe, Islam always positioned itself as the antithesis. It built its empire on the ruins of the Roman Empire and saw itself as the legitimate leader of the world. The loss of power that accompanied the end of the Ottoman Empire did not change this. Today, Muslims come to Europe not as conquerors but as mostly peaceful migrants, but Islamism migrates along with them and wants to complete its project in Europe.
Abdel-Samad urgently warns, "We have to talk about Islam again, because the future of Europe also depends on its future."
