Guided tour for blind and visually impaired people with Ina Penny and Wilma Otte, both from SPSG
The New Palace is the largest palace in Sanssouci Park. Its dome towers above the trees. Inside the New Palace there are guest rooms, precious paintings and a unique hall – the Grotto Hall.
Here, stones, shells and snails adorn the walls. They glisten when light streams through the large windows. The marble floor is smooth and glossy. It is as if the visitor were standing in a cave or even beneath the water’s surface.
More than 23,000 minerals, gemstones, ores and fossils, along with countless shells, snails and glass beads, adorn the walls. Strange sea monsters and sea gods complete the hall and the almost fairy-tale-like feeling of being in the realm of the Little Mermaid.
