Rossini's late sacred work in a performance with the Berlin Motet Choir.

"Dear God. Here it is, the poor little mass. Have I now really made sacred music (musique sacrée), or rather miserable music (sacrée musique)? I was born for the opera buffa. You know it well! A little skill, a little heart, that's all. So be praised and grant me paradise."
34 years after his last opera, the famous Rossini composes again in 1863: this time a mass. For the inauguration of the private chapel of a wealthy Parisian nobleman, in a highly unusual instrumentation: soloists and choir are accompanied only by a grand piano and a harmonium. Although Rossini himself later created an orchestral version of the work, this original version is by far the more appealing. The Berlin Motet Choir is accompanied on two exceptional instruments: the Bösendorfer Imperial grand piano of the Grunewaldkirche (one of the largest concert grand pianos ever) and a 1909 harmonium by Johannes Tietz.
