William Shakespeare's tragedy "Macbeth" is the prototype of a parable about the lust for power. It is about the rise of the military leader Macbeth, who becomes King of Scotland through murder and intrigue.
The Ukrainian director Stas Zhyrkov, who has lived in exile in Germany since the beginning of the Russian war of aggression against Ukraine, is examining the questions of power and recognition, guilt and tyranny together with his team and students from the Ernst Busch Academy of Dramatic Arts to see what their current potential is.
How does power work? Where does violence come from? What stories do people tell themselves to justify it? What can they do to counter it? What can we do against tyranny? Is a world without violence conceivable?
