Guidance at the information point heavy load body

In 1941, a technical structure was erected in the immediate vicinity of the planned triumphal arch to test the load-bearing capacity of the subsoil for this monumental building on the north-south axis.

The so-called heavy-load body, a cylindrical compression body made of solid concrete, has a diameter of 21 meters. It reaches 14 meters in height and 18 meters in depth. French forced laborers were used in its construction. The heavy load body was not to be demolished later, but the ground was to be filled in and the road was to be built over it.

The north-south axis was never realized in its planned form. What remains - like a reminder relic - is the twelve-thousand-ton load body.
