Light has been Chen Ruo Bing's theme from the very beginning. Over the years, he increasingly dissolved the material in his paintings. Concrete forms, opaque colours became increasingly intangible. With brush, paint and canvas, he approaches the embodiment of light. The exhibition shows square luminous colour paintings as well as elongated light landscapes, in which the horizon line no longer separates earth and sky, but appears like a voluminous long rod, floating weightlessly in infinite space.

Like no other, the artist manages to create infinite spaces of light from very little paint. He needs no more than a flat canvas to do so. The secret of his paintings cannot be fathomed. How is it possible that so much is created from almost nothing - it borders on magic.
