An online program by the Deutsche Kinemathek to mark the 100th anniversary of the production designer's birth on February 5, 2021.

On February 5, 2021, Sir Ken Adam would have turned 100. In 2012, the world-famous production designer donated his archive to the Deutsche Kinemathek, which two years later showed these materials in an exhibition at the Museum für Film und Fernsehen: "Bigger Than Life. Ken Adam's Film Design."

To this day, Ken Adam's work - as for Stanley Kubrick's 'Dr. Strangelove' - is groundbreaking, his spectacular design of the early 'James Bond films' is formative both for film and design as well as for architecture.

We take his 100th birthday as an occasion to commemorate Ken Adam and his artistic work with two thematic online tours and an expansion of the online presentation at www.ken-adam-archiv.de.

On February 5 at 1 p.m., Rainer Rother, Artistic Director of the Deutsche Kinemathek, and Anett Sawall, graphic archivist, will offer insights into the scenographic work of the legendary production designer in an Instagram tour entitled "James Bond's Worlds and Their Designer."

On February 10 at 7 p.m., curator Kristina Jaspers will highlight Ken Adams' "visions of space" along his biography in an Instagram tour.

In an extension of the online presentation of his production archive www.ken-adam-archiv.de, memories and comments by prominent friends and colleagues, companions and admirers of the artist will be published on February 5. They pay tribute to Adam's grandiose drawing technique, the visionary power of his designs, and the elegance and drama of his set designs. And last but not least, they remind us of the man Ken Adam, whose eventful life represents the combination of risk-taking, grandeur and humor.
