The Arabic recommendation: Take your time and drink tea. Your Habibtis and Habibis are sitting next to you, all enjoying the evening sun. The warm colors blend with the soundscape. The floor transmits the vibrations of low frequencies to your bodies, which synchronize with the pulse of the music. With your eyes closed, you listen to the tales of the oud and let yourself be carried away by the waves.
An EYPA concert is more than just music. Being together, being part of something bigger, is what the Arabic word كن ("Kun"), which adorns EYPA as its nickname, stands for. كن means "to be" and symbolizes what the Arab-German duo wants to achieve with their music: to be in the here and now.
In their music, Eyad Ghannam (electric oud—an Arabic short-necked lute) and Paul-Aaron Wolf (drums, synthesizer) combine diverse cultural and musical influences into a unified electro-acoustic sound. As a transcultural project, EYPA seeks to partially dissolve the categorical division between two cultures and create a new world.
EYPA's music incorporates elements of electronic dance, ambient, electro, and downtempo. Synthesizers and electric oud create a rich texture of warm colors, while drums and percussion provide a captivating vibe and infectious groove—both in the club and outdoors. Composition and improvisation merge into a trance, turning each live set into a unique show.
Eyad and Paul met while studying at the Popakademie Baden-Württemberg in 2021 and discovered during their first jam session that they were creating a new and unique kind of music together. When they play live, the two friends connect with their instruments in pure authenticity and even transmit the energy they share to the audience. In this way, they create moments of connection and unity for themselves and their audience.
