The Belgian artist Edith Dekyndt has explored forces: In physical experimental constellations as well as in the observation of ritual practices of indigenous tribes or Texan cowboys. "Energeia" (Greek = "reality") denotes a dynamic of realization. Reality arises through the influence of invisible forces on a medium.

What forces are these and what traces do they leave behind?

Based on her performance "The Lariat" ("Das Lasso", 2019), in which she had an 8 x 4 m silk cloth perforated by a lasso, she shows the traces of this energy impact: perforations, tears, sounds of the rope circling through the air and crashing onto the textile, plus flames and burn marks. A great dynamic of image and sound emerges, which announces both the great power of human taming of reality and its vulnerability and resilience.
