The exhibition CROSSING by Dorothea Tuch, a photographer from Berlin, deals intensively with intermediate states and transitions. For her, the attraction as a photographer lies in capturing the states in between – those moments in which one is neither one nor the other, and perhaps even consciously want to linger in this state.

The impossibility of being clearly classified gives a kind of freedom. In a way, many photos reflect this idea of the transitional period: be it the weather, a curious look, or a frozen movement. Capturing the moment doesn't mean the action can't go on. There's still movement in the air. Something is happening. Definitely something.

Dorothea Tuch has been part of the queer scene in Berlin for a long time and has been behind the counter at SO36 for a long time. At the same time, she completed a degree in product design at the University of the Arts (UdK) Berlin. She finally turned to photography with great enthusiasm.

Her pictures are characterized by their lyrical style, which emerges from a documentary point of view. In recent years, for example, photo series have been created for the Sophiensäle, the Schaubühne, the HAU Hebbel am Ufer and other stages and artists, as well as for various fashion designers.

During her portrait shoots, she creates an atmosphere of trust in which those portrayed feel comfortable and a creative exchange can take place.

Her works have already been presented in exhibitions in Berlin, Hamburg and Zurich and can be found in various books and magazines. Her photographs of the queer ButchWalk fashion show 2022 and her contributions to the LesbenKalendar 2023, which are already legendary, are particularly well known.
