Sartre's play sheds light on the conflict between idealism and realpolitik. The condensed productions by Slovenian director Mateja Koležnik often act like a burning glass - and thus show social conflicts that become plausible from the perspective of each character.

About the play:

The leader of a revolutionary party in "Illyria", Hoederer, is planning an alliance with the enemy. He wants to avoid further bloodshed - and at the same time secure his own share of power after the war. Hugo is commissioned by the party to stop Hoederer, but he struggles to kill him. When he finally does kill him, it is not out of conviction, but out of jealousy.

Is his act still a political act? With what conviction did he commit it - and does that make a difference?
