After ten years as solo bassoonist in the orchestra of the Komische Oper Berlin, Catherine Larsen-Maguire decided in 2012 to devote her full attention to conducting. Since then she has worked with numerous orchestras worldwide.
This season she will again work with the Deutsches Kammerorchester Berlin. In addition to her commitment to European classical music, she is also heavily involved in the contemporary music scene. She has conducted several world premieres. In addition, she regularly gives master classes in Germany and abroad and performs with international youth orchestras.
Catherine Larsen-Maguire was born in Manchester, England, and studied musicology at Cambridge University. She then continued her studies at the Royal Academy of Music in London and the Karajan Academy in Berlin. She is currently based in Berlin.
