The Berlin ensemble VOX NOSTRA, specialising in vocal music of the Middle Ages and conducted by Burkard Wehner, and the celebrated actress CLAUDIA GRAUE (who has performed under Robert Wilson in the Berliner Ensemble and is the female voice of the cult trio "Mutti's Kinder", among others) will breathe new life into the 15th-century Dance of Death fresco in the Marienkirche.

In this extraordinary concert performance, Claudia Graue slips into various figures from the Dance of Death and the four solo singers interweave the original texts with appropriate chants from the Middle Ages and Renaissance. In addition to monophonic and polyphonic settings from the Mass for the Dead (Requiem aeternam, Dies irae dies illa, Domine Jesu Christe and Lux aeterna), there is also a dance-like song of the Dance of Death from 14th century Spain, a penitential psalm and the famous song "Innsbruck, ich muß dich lassen" (Innsbruck, I have to let you go) in a text version before 1549 by Johann Hess under the title "O Welt, ich muß dich lassen". In the Dance of Death, the figures of death enter into a dialogue with spiritual and secular people, announce the imminent end of their lives and invite them to join in the long line dance.

The scenic realisation of this theatrical concert performance has been taken over by Norbert Jan Skowronek, who enjoyed his training at the Palucca School in Dresden and worked for many years as a choreographer and director in Germany and abroad.
