Über eine Poetik der Transformation

The *Deberlinisation* commemorative volume, curated by Ibou Coulibaly Diop, Franck Hermann Ekra and Bonaventure Soh Bejeng Ndikung and published in collaboration with Diaphanes, explores the urgency and possibilities of ‘Deberlinisation’: a concept developed by the visual artist Mansour Ciss Kanakassy to question the aftermath of the Berlin Congo Conference (1884/85), at which the industrial and military powers of the time deliberated on the partition of the African continent.

The publication documents contributions to a three-day programme organised by the HKW in April 2025 and presents the academic findings, essays, polemics and literary approaches that emerged from it.

Through a transformative poetics that bridges creative action with forms of critique and resistance, the commemorative volume *Deberlinisierung* critically engages with persistent colonial structures of knowledge and power and highlights alternatives to the prevailing world order.

Authors of the book will discuss the potential of ‘De-Berlinisation’ with other guests to sketch out possible future scenarios. Accompanied by musical and literary contributions, they will explore the strategies and language needed to retell the story of the world.
