Private photographs of people from Vietnam, Mozambique, Cuba, Angola, Iran and others. • Moderator: Dan Thy Nguyen

The media legacy of the GDR has so far been primarily white. Migrants and "East Germans of Color" are hardly present, and their everyday life in the GDR is not very visible.

The online exhibition and archive De-Zentralbild presents private photographs and related memories of contract workers, schoolchildren, students and political emigrants and relatives of the second generation.

Research was carried out in Germany, Cuba, Mozambique and Vietnam, 17 protagonists are presented in video portraits together with their photos, 13 others in biographical photo essays.

De-Zentralbild shows: The GDR had its own history of migration. The paths and experiences of their immigrants are very different. The photographs they took and collected paint a picture of it. An important part of the story are the stories told by those who are now living in their countries of origin.

De-Zentralbild is a project by out of focus media projects.

Artistic direction: Dr. Isabel Enzenbach and Julia Oelkers
