The exhibition traces the phenomenon of the "doll" as a material, human-like artefact, narrative, figure of thought, metaphor or medium in contemporary art.

The puppet provides art with forms and content and, with its manifestations, is a recurring projection surface. Works with very different traces of dolls by 20 artists will be shown and thus the complexity of artistic approaches to the doll.

Works by Thomas Bartel, Klaus Böttger, Franziskus Dellgrün, Martin Enderlein, Hubertus Giebe, Viktoria Graf, Pauline Hoff, Dorothee Helena Jacobs, Liz Mields-Kratochwil, Walter Libuda, Thomas K. Müller, NÄNZI, Christine Perthen, Annette Peukert-Krisper, Claudia Rößger, Hans Scheib, Reiner Schwarz, Peter Sorge, Christian Ulrich, Klaus Weidensdorfer, Baldwin Zettl are on display. Their works often deal with questions of identity, representation or the credibility of the human being.

The selection of works focuses on the return of the puppet - as a whole body and in body fragments - and asks about the significance that the puppet currently has in art.
