Daniele Gatti conducts Schoenberg, Strauss and Wagner

Daniele Gatti conducts three works of the late Romantic period that depict existential moments:

in Verklärte Nacht, Arnold Schoenberg describes with expressive tonal language the state of mind of a pair of lovers on a nocturnal walk, while Richard Strauss’ Tod und Verklärung reflects the emotions and visions of a dying man.

The opera Tristan und Isolde, in which Richard Wagner shows an intoxicating love that finds its ultimate fulfilment in death, is passion made music.
We hear the Prelude, which expresses the pain of yearning from the very first note, and Isolde’s Liebestod.
