Kinemathek – Art House Theater

Director Biene Pilavci uses a family wedding as an opportunity to come to terms with the history of her childhood, which was marked by domestic violence within a Turkish family in Backnang, near Stuttgart.

Diary entries and VHS recordings – once silent witnesses to the violence – now serve as the starting point for a direct confrontation with her parents and siblings. There are many questions, much silence and a great deal of anger.

The traumas of a generation of parents with a history of migration are passed on unfiltered to the new generation. The longing for a perfectly normal family resonates throughout, as does the question of to what extent this is even possible for one’s own future?
