Since its founding as an exhibition house in 1946, the Haus am Waldsee has occupied a firm place among the first houses for international contemporary art in Berlin. Today, it offers a platform to those artists who have come to Berlin since the late 1990s and have achieved international success. The spectrum of content ranges from the visual arts to design and architecture to positions that work with composition and sound.
In up to five exhibitions a year, individual positions, themes as well as classical works of post-war modernism are put up for discussion.
The exhibition program is dedicated to innovative approaches to artistic practice and presents the respective viewpoint in depth. Special emphasis is placed on mediation. Thus, children's vernissages, artist talks, artist dinners, performances, a summer academy, or concerts are held regularly; audio guides lead to outstanding examples of modernist architecture in the immediate vicinity of the house.
Visitors can also be inspired sensually, practically, and intellectually by contemporary arts at the highest level in the Sculpture Park at Lake Waldsee. The works encourage reflection on the question of how the new comes into the world by means of the visual arts and how our thinking is sharpened and expanded by it.
As a small "Louisiana" of Berlin we want to stimulate innovative thinking and for this purpose we interview artists of different disciplines who live and work in Berlin today. The artists and the visitors have our full attention.
