Transcribed and arranged works I

Bach was primarily a practicing church musician and had to supply a large number of compositions for the organ, for cantata performances, and also for his instrumental lessons. Sometimes, as was common at the time, Bach looked to other composers and transcribed their works.

In the concert, the audience will hear two concerti by Antonio Vivaldi, which Bach arranged in an impressive way for the Queen of Instruments. Bach also resorts to a theme by an Italian composer in the Fugue in B minor (BWV 578), a trio movement by Arcangelo Corelli.

However, Bach not infrequently arranged and reused his own works, as in the Prelude and Fugue in D minor, BWV 539, whose fugue is an arrangement of the 2nd movement of his Violin Sonata BWV 1001.
