In the footsteps of Gereon Rath (half-day tour)
Babylon Berlin – one of the most successful and internationally acclaimed German series – has transported millions of people into the fascinating world of the Weimar Republic. Now you can immerse yourself in this era: on our official tour of the original film locations and authentic settings of that period.
With iPads in hand, you will see film scenes from the series and rare historical footage from the 1920s right on location. The past and present merge in an impressive way: where galleries now invite visitors, communists and National Socialists once faced each other; where the world clock now stands, Charlotte Ritter rides the tram in the series; and in one of the most hidden places of old Berlin, Inspector Gereon Rath investigates in the shadow of history.
The guides – historians with a passion for the Weimar Republic, some of whom contributed to the series – recount the historical reality behind the series: the vibrant nightlife, the political chaos, the modernity, glamour and abyss. They also have background knowledge about the filming, the actors in Babylon and the books by Volker Kutscher. A city tour between fiction and history – intense, lively and authentic. Ideal for film fans, history buffs and anyone who wants to relive old Berlin.
The tour mainly takes place in Berlin-Mitte between Prenzlauer Berg and Klosterstraße or Friedrichstraße (PLEASE NOTE: BVG ticket required).
The tour is conducted in German (English tours available on request).
