Book Premiere

Rarely are the great moments and abysses of a country reflected so succinctly in the history of a theater as in the case of the Deutsches Theater Berlin.

Starting with the awakening and emancipation of the German bourgeoisie in the second half of the 19th century, to which this theater owes its foundation, to the fate of German history in the 20th century, into which this bourgeoisie fell under National Socialism.

In the subsequent Cold War, it was the most important stage in the GDR, from which decisive impulses emanated during the political and social turning point of 1989/90, which continue to the present day. Esther Slevogt describes all this in her linguistically precise and elegantly told and wonderfully staged book On the Boards of the World.
