When the Berlin Wall was built in 1961, a large part of Babelsberg Park below the palace became a GDR restricted area, resulting in the partial destruction of 14 hectares of parkland.

After the discovery of the remains of historical flowerbeds, the reconstruction of the Pleasuregrounds in the shadow of the border fortifications began in the 1970s.
On the tour with garden monument conservator Katrin Schröder, you will learn more about the traces of German division and the restoration of the park before and after 1989/90.
