Songs of Ives / Strawinsky / Debussy

Charles Ives sometimes wrote songs that did not require a human voice - he found that the singers made so much fuss that he then replaced them with a solo instrument. In the pieces selected by Anna Prohaska and pianist Pierre-Laurent Aimard, the voice will still play the leading role.

Ives' songs deal with a diverse range of topics, ranging from childhood dreams to industrialization, from social criticism to autumn impressions. They are juxtaposed with songs by Debussy and Stravinsky
