Since her debut, Agnes Obel has been a fixture in the European music scene: three years after her last tour, the celebrated artist is finally bringing her unique sounds back to German stages.
Born in Copenhagen in 1980, she grew up in a musical home: her mother played Chopin for her on the piano, while her father was a passionate collector of rare instruments. She took piano lessons at an early age and founded her first folk bands. She was particularly influenced by the Swedish jazz pianist Jan Johansson, who inspired her to write her own songs. "Philharmonics" was released in October 2010, and its special sound quickly gained great recognition.
With her mix of folk, neo-classical and pop, as well as her distinctive voice, she quickly won over many fans - the album rose to number one in the Danish album charts, was awarded platinum several times, and the following year she received a whopping five awards at the Danish Music Awards.
With her second album "Aventine" in 2013, she cemented her reputation as an exceptional artist: she integrated rare instruments such as the Trautonium from the 1920s and also dared to experiment with new sounds on her third album "Citizen of Glass". Her music has been used in international films and series such as True Detective, Big Little Lies and The Last of Us, which brought her new fans around the world.
Shortly before the start of the Covid 19 pandemic, she released her fourth album "Mytopia" on the classical label Deutsche Grammophon in February 2020. With this work, she moved further away from her earlier pop influences and created a fascinating fusion of classical melodies and electronic sound design. Obel attaches particular importance to the lyrics of her songs, which are strongly influenced by the narrative tradition of folk music.
Agnes Obel's concerts are always an extraordinary experience. Her unique sound cosmos transports the audience into a dreamy world - and her intense stage presence turns every concert into an intimate, emotional journey. In autumn 2025, Obel will return after a three-year break from the stage and will perform at the Admiralspalast in Berlin.
