reading with PD Dr. Heide Hoffmann

Business trips are rarely associated with adventure. The travels of agricultural scientist PD Dr. are completely different. Heide Hoffmann from the Berlin Humboldt University in Berlin. During her service, she not only initiated numerous international collaborations and research projects, but also supervised training projects and graduate work on organic and urban agriculture, particularly in countries in the Global South.

Her research and training projects on sustainable agriculture, as well as conference trips, took her around the globe alone or together with colleagues and students and offered her the opportunity to get to know the country and its people in a very intensive way and far away from the usual tourist paths and their luxuries. There were intensive experiences with real socialism in Cuba, formative experiences with the way of life of the Xavantes in Brazil and the Kichwa in the Amazon region of Ecuador, and encounters with agricultural experts on the Galapagos Islands, in Southeast Asia and in southern Africa.

Since 1991 she has kept a diary during research trips. She has now published the most interesting encounters and adventures on the sidelines of her business trips in a book. As part of the approximately two-hour reading (with a break), she will present selected experiences with many pictures in her inspiring style.
