49. Deutsch-Skandinavische Orchesterwoche: Festkonzert

The concert of the German-Scandinavian Youth Philharmonic on January 5, 2025 in the Berlin Philharmonie is under the theme of "Goethe and Shakespeare".

The first part of the concert program, which is dedicated to Goethe, focuses on the performance of the "Songs of Goethe" by the Danish late romantic Ruud Langgaard.

These works will be presented in an orchestral arrangement by Andreas Peer Kähler, created in 2024, specially commissioned for the German-Scandinavian Youth Philharmonic.

In addition, Langgaard's short but powerful 11th Symphony ("Ixion") from 1944/45 will open the concert. This offers the audience the rare opportunity to discover a fascinating outsider of Nordic music. The Goethe part concludes with Paul Dukas' world-famous "Sorcerer's Apprentice".

The second part of the program is dedicated to William Shakespeare. Selected excerpts from Sergei Prokofiev's orchestral suites for Romeo and Juliet will be performed, in a new concert version by Andreas Peer Kähler.

A special highlight of the evening will be the performance of a surprise work. What this work is and what thematic connection it has to the rest of the program will only be revealed during the concert.
