Anniversary year 2023/24

Hundreds of people demonstrated in Berlin on March 18, 1848 for social improvements and freedom, in short for a better life. The protest was put down and many people died. 255 dead of the March Revolution were buried in the Cemetery of the March Fallen. The "Cemetery of the March Fallen" was specially created at that time to create a place of remembrance and a memorial.

The cemetery in Berlin-Friedrichshain is to be developed into a national memorial and a place of thought for democratic learning and participation. For it is a memorial site for two revolutions at once: In November and December 1918, the victims of the 1918/19 revolution were also buried in the Cemetery of the March Fallen.

In the 175th year of the March Revolution of 1848/49, events will be held throughout Germany. The exact program will be announced.

For the anniversary on March 18, 2023, a new outdoor exhibition on the 1848 Revolution will be displayed at the Cemetery of the March Fallen.
