Marco Bertram looks back on his border crossing 20 years ago
In the summer of 2003, two photographers undertook a 1,376-kilometre hike along the former German-German border. The starting point was the former border triangle of the ČSSR, GDR and FRG. The tour ended at Priwall near Lübeck-Travemünde on the Baltic Sea coast.
Using over 4,000 slides, Karsten Höft and Marco Bertram documented the border museums, the remains of the still visible border fortifications, the Kolonnenweg, the once divided border town of Mödlareuth and other memorials to the division, as well as the nature that has transformed the death strip back into a green area.
