Reinickendorf by bike

This approximately one and a half hour tour starts at Borsigwerke underground station. Please note that the station does not have a lift. The end of the tour is at Wittenau S-Bahn station, where there is a lift.

In between, you can expect impressive industrial monuments, plenty of nature at Tegeler See and in Tegeler Forst, the odd animal friend and delicious biscuits as a reward. Plan time for stops to swim, marvel and eat biscuits.

Tour Highlights

Right at the beginning you will see an impressive architectural monument from the times of industrialisation, the Borsigwerke. Among other things, you can see the Borsigtor, built in 1898. Berlin's first high-rise building, the Borsigturm, was built relatively late in 1922 and away from the city centre.

Enjoy nature at Tegeler See lake. On the Greenwich Promenade, which was completely redesigned a few years ago, it is worth taking a break with a refreshing ice cream in summer. When you return from your swim, you will see Tegel Palace, also known as Humboldt Palace. The stately home built by Karl Friedrich Schinkel is the childhood home of the Humboldt brothers. Another highlight is the so-called "Dicke Marie", Berlin's oldest tree.

Finally, the route takes you to the Märkisches Viertel to make a detour to the Bahlsen factory outlet. Here you can buy biscuits and chocolate at a reduced price. The Märkisches Viertel high-rise housing estate, built in 1974, was once considered a showcase project for modern urban development before its image was tainted. Today, its reputation has changed for the better thanks to numerous measures.

Insider Tips

  • Animal friends: There is an enclosure for wild boar, mouflon and fallow deer on the Schwarzer Weg in Tegeler Forst. At the right time of year, you can see cute newborns here.
  • Swimming fun: If you want to go swimming, the best place to do so is at the Tegelsee lido. There is white sand and a water slide here.
