Christmas Market on Sophienstraße
Christmas Market in Berlin on all four Advent weekends in 2026
Berlin-based start-ups and selected retailers will be selling special Christmas gifts at the award-winning Christmas market.
On the four weekends of Advent, Sophienstraße, right next to the Hackesche Höfe, is once again transformed into an atmospheric Christmas village where you can buy unique designer and artisan goods. The nostalgic and cosy atmosphere invites you to linger in the historic city centre.
A traditional Christmas market with a distinctive concept
For over 20 years, the Christmas market has been an integral part of the pre-Christmas scene in Berlin’s historic city centre. And just one year after it first opened in 1995, it won first prize in 1996 in a competition focusing on sustainable living. The Christmas market certainly deserves this recognition, as it is lit using energy-saving electricity, there are no fairground rides and no excessive neon lighting.
Over 80 selected traders and start-ups from Berlin offer unusual Christmas gifts, trendy and hip Berlin design, natural products, treats and other items for sale at their stalls. What makes this special is that the exhibitors support charitable projects in Berlin and abroad.
Culinary classics and international specialities
Culinary delights include Christmas market classics such as bratwurst, crêpes and mulled wine, whilst you can also sample international treats such as pheasant salami, chai banana bread or chai tea.
Theatre, choral music and light artists
Performances by light artists, small choirs and street theatre round off the festive experience on Sophienstraße.
