Lectures and Discussions on Jewish-Queer Life Stories

In Holocaust research to date, there has been a tendency to categorise protagonists. Persecuted queer people are usually regarded as non-Jewish, whilst Jewish victims are implicitly assumed to be heterosexual.

The Mitte Museum invites you to two evenings of discussion about people who were both queer and Jewish. Through talks by four speakers, the events will shed light on Jewish-queer life stories from 1933 to 1945 and beyond.

On 5 November, Jake Schneider (he/him) will explore the connection between queerness, the Yiddish language and culture, whilst Rafael Nasemann (he/him) will present the remembrance project ‘Queer Heroes’, which, amongst other things, commemorates the lives of many queer Jewish people in Berlin.

Afterwards, everyone is invited to join in a discussion.

  • The events will be held in spoken German.
