ADIRA Drag Festival 3.0
This year’s festival attempts the almost impossible: a drag ensemble dedicated to a single persona who has never shared a stage in their life. By definition, a diva is a solo artist. What happens when divas have to compete for the limelight? What alliances or rivalries emerge when icons, accustomed to standing alone, are thrown into an ensemble? Equally revered and criticised, divas can be imperfect, controversial, scandalous, politically complex and sometimes even deeply questionable. Yet it is often precisely these contradictions that make them objects of identification and fantasy for queer communities.
Each artist reinterprets a diva who has shaped their career – ranging from faithful homages to radical reinterpretations – and brings them to the stage, which until now has been reserved exclusively for them.
