A one-person show with live music and puppetry, loosely based on the cult film
Directed by Tilla Kratochwil, this production is a sensual blend of theater, live music, and puppetry. Rike Schuberty plays Paula, a single mother and saleswoman who fights unconditionally for her happiness.
A woman of the people who is free to speak her mind, to know what she knows, and who is old enough to have no doubts about true love.
Rike Schuberty accompanies herself on guitar, performing live renditions of the film’s hits, made famous by the Phudys.
“Paul and Paula” was and remains a cult classic. By 1973, 3 million people had seen the film in a short period of time. It reflected the spirit of an entire generation. Both the film and the play are an entertaining reflection on love, conformity, and the contradiction between ideal and reality. Sixty years after the founding of the GDR, reality is different—but the dreams are the same!
