Numerous writers have drawn inspiration from whiskey—and so have many literary characters. But not all whiskeys are created equal. On this evening, we’ll explore stories from the worlds of Charles Bukowski, Graham Greene, James Joyce, Haruki Murakami, Jo Nesbø, Frank Schätzing, and others, while examining what they actually drank. We’ll sample six whiskeys from four countries.
Jürgen Diessl, who has worked in the book industry for 30 years, will explore the connections between whiskey, authors, and their works, while whiskey expert Tanja Bempreiksz will enrich the evening with vivid insights into the world of distilleries.
(in German)
The setting for this delightful evening is the Hotel Bett und Buch—a building steeped in history. Once a pub, then a public library, later a ruin, and now a lovingly renovated hotel and café. The individually designed rooms, each dedicated to a specific author, naturally also house the old treasures of the former library.
