“Everybody waltz” at the private boarding school Schloss Salamander? Gabriel and Rosalinde, both from wealthy families, are the school’s dream couple. But not everyone in the class is from an upper-class background.

Adele, who grew up in humble circumstances, is forced to earn her attic room at the boarding school as a maid. And Falki, who is mocked by his fellow pupils as “Dr. Falke” for his pedantic ways, doesn’t have it easy either. When a mysterious invitation to a secret costume party surfaces, excitement takes hold of the educational facility that is otherwise so tightly run by director Frank. In the delirium of dance and masks, the lines separating dream and reality blur.

With the catchy melodies by the Waltz King Johann Strauss, director Giulia Giammona tells the story of the Viennese operetta for a young audience in a new way: children eight and older are invited to join in and participate, turning the main hall of the Staatsoper into a stage.
