TOSCA – A Musical Drama Between Love, Power, and Freedom

Puccini's TOSCA is more than just a tragic opera – it is an intense musical drama about love, the abuse of power, and the price of freedom. In a time of political upheaval, three contrasting characters collide: the passionate singer Tosca, the idealistic painter Cavaradossi, and the brutal police chief Scarpia. Their desires for personal freedom and truth are in a fatal tension that culminates in a dramatic finale.

Puccini interweaves the expressive musical language of verismo with subtle echoes of Wagner and Verdi. He achieves a balance between orchestral refinement and vocal clarity – sometimes brutal and direct, sometimes tender and poetic.

The Production – Experience Timeless Operatic Art in Berlin

The Barlog production, revived by Götz Friedrich in 1987, remains true to Puccini's musical and thematic intentions. It relies on clear staging and emotional precision. The opulent aesthetics and scenic authenticity make the Berlin TOSCA an unforgettable operatic experience – for beginners and connoisseurs alike.

The Deutsche Oper Berlin invites you to experience Puccini's masterpiece live – in one of the most important TOSCA productions worldwide.
