Matinee by and with Maria Hartmann, with guest: Gustav Peter Wöhler
"The worst thing is that those who seek power have power." This statement by the writer and journalist Gabriele Tergit could hardly be more relevant today. Courage, a clear stance, and a critical view of society characterized her life and her writing.
Born in 1894 in Berlin-Moabit as Elise Hirschmann into a wealthy Jewish family, she did not hesitate to pursue her independent career path despite family opposition.
Employed as a court reporter for the Berliner Tageblatt from 1924 onward, Tergit repeatedly dedicated her writing to the so-called "little people": maids, vagrants, or prostitutes, and examined their social context.
