with interior tour of the Neues Museum

Museum Island is one of Berlin’s main attractions and has been a UNESCO World Heritage Site for 25 years. The cornerstone for Karl Friedrich Schinkel’s Altes Museum was laid on July 9, 1825—200 years ago.

On this guided tour, you’ll have the opportunity to rediscover the buildings of the State Museums. Using historical photos and plans, you’ll learn more about the history of Museum Island, its architectural development, and the cultural and historical significance of the buildings.

The tour highlights unusual architectural details and illustrates the key concepts behind the buildings’ design.

A highlight of the tour is the James Simon Gallery, which opened in 2019, and a visit to the Neues Museum—an award-winning renovation project based on the concept of “complementary restoration.”
