Mystical night tour in the historic center of Berlin
"The uncanny is nothing other than the secret, suddenly revealed." - E.T.A. Hoffmann, author of ghost stories in Berlin around 1817
Night is the time of ghosts, bats, and demons. On this night tour, you will visit the oldest preserved cemetery within Berlin's medieval city walls. In the monastery district, you will hear about a mummy that took a trip into modern times during the GDR era around 1987. In the squares of modern Berlin, you will be shown the sites of the former execution grounds, over which ravens still circle today.
You will learn why a dead man was sentenced in Berlin's courtroom in 1390 and why the limping monk still haunts the monastery ruins. You'll hear traditional ghost stories from medieval Berlin at original locations. Today, Berlin is characterized by the tension between its outward appearance as a modern capital and its hidden Gothic atmosphere, which, not only in Hoffmann's works, brings the uncanny to light in the heart of the metropolis.
On this nighttime walking tour, you'll experience Berlin's historic old town with its medieval quarters, including the famous Nikolai Quarter. You'll delve deep into the eerie atmosphere of Berlin's bygone past and see the seemingly familiar city center from a different perspective.
