a wonderful park created from a gravel pit
The Körnerkiez neighborhood, located between Hermannstraße and Karl-Marx-Straße, is home to a variety of interesting buildings and institutions. Among them are the Neukölln Lighthouse, the Ilsenhof—a cooperative housing complex dating from the 1920s—and Körnerpark, which was developed on the site of a former gravel pit by 1916.
The tour also delves into the life of the park’s namesake, Franz Körner. He had rather exotic tastes. Or would you have expected to find Egyptian crocodiles in Neukölln?
