A hidden oasis: the Wilmina Hotel Berlin
One of the most unusual and at the same time most tasteful hotels in the city awaits you at Kantstraße 79. In the former Charlottenburg women's prison, a new hotel has been created that does justice to the listed 19th century ensemble. Carefully and simply furnished rooms overlook interlocking courtyards and lush gardens. The renowned architects Grüntuch Ernst have succeeded in creating a sensitive dialogue between the existing rooms while carefully preserving the traces of the past. The result is a tranquil retreat in the centre of Berlin that is unique in this form.
The family-run hotel welcomes you with its 44 rooms and suites in light tones and soft colours. There is no sign of the cramped conditions of the former prison cells and you can enjoy peace and comfort. The hotel is suitable for single travellers and couples as well as business travellers and families. Fast internet is just as much a matter of course as a safe, a television and a small desk in every room. On request, some of the hotel rooms can also be connected to form small suites - ideal for a trip to the big city with the family. On the roof terrace you can enjoy the fresh Berlin air and in the library you can read and relax in peace. The hotel also offers a spa and fitness area, a bar and the in-house restaurant Lovis, where chef Sophia Rudolph defines contemporary German cuisine. Together with her team, she reinterprets traditional dishes at this enchanting location, focussing on regional and seasonal ingredients. Let yourself be surprised.

Wilmina Hotel Berlin: past and present
The historic ensemble of the Wilmina Hotel in Charlottenburg was built in 1896 as a criminal court with an associated prison, at that time still as a detached building. The front building initially housed the court of lay assessors, later the probate administration, then the state institute for chemistry and finally the Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf land registry. The prison itself was closed in 1985 and the premises served as an archive for the land registry. The Wilmina Hotel Berlin has succeeded in doing justice to this eventful history. In addition to the hotel and restaurant, a third institution has found its place in the ensemble: The former court building has been given a new lease of life as an art and cultural space under the name Amtsalon. The multidisciplinary space for art, architecture and design provides a platform for creative minds and companies to design temporary project spaces. Admission is free and the changing exhibitions are well worth a visit.
Wilmina Hotel: discover Charlottenburg
Even if the sheltered security of the Wilmina Hotel Berlin sometimes makes you forget it: you are in the centre of Berlin. Thanks to its elegant pre-war buildings, the Charlottenburg district enjoys an exclusive reputation. A short walk to the west from the hotel is the Lietzensee, a green recreational area in the centre of the city. Around the lake lies the old Witzleben community, which was founded in 1820 as a country estate with a park by Job von Witzleben. The park of the country estate still exists today as Lietzenseepark. At the turn of the 20th century, the first elegant apartment blocks for the upper classes of Berlin and Charlottenburg were built on the lake. And the lake is still one of the most beautiful residential areas in the city today. Even 200 years later, the extensive park still invites you to linger and relax. And many visitors to the city are amazed at how quiet and small-town it can be in the centre of the capital.
To the north of the lake is the Schillerwiese, where you can sunbathe to your heart's content. On the lakeside terrace next door is the Stella boathouse, which offers a beer garden, hearty dishes and a special panorama. After sunset, the Berlin radio tower is reflected in the water of the lake and provides a unique view. The Bavarian restaurant Engelbecken in Witzlebenstraße, directly opposite the lake, is just as down-to-earth and unpretentious. With schnitzel with potato salad and wheat beer, you can take a short culinary trip to the south of Germany. Another tip: on the way back to the hotel, stop off at Blomeyer's Käse and Wald Königsberger Marzipan - both absolute experts in their field and well-known beyond the borders of Charlottenburg.
On a discovery tour around the Wilmina Hotel Berlin
From the hotel, you can walk east along Kantstraße to the Wilmersdorfer Straße shopping street in just a few minutes. There you will find everything your heart desires and can shop for hours. Or you can stroll through the markets on Karl-August-Platz and Lehniner Platz. Over the years, Kantstraße itself has developed into a centre for Asian cultures in Berlin. In what is known as Asiatown , you will find many shops, exotic goods and restaurants as well as cultural offerings from the Far East. On Savignyplatz , you can find some peace and quiet in the hustle and bustle of the city. Before the Second World War, the square was a meeting place for writers and artists. And you can still sense something of the spirit of the old days today: a small green paradise opens up very close to Kurfürstendamm , inviting you to take a deep breath under the canopy of trees and flowering shrubs. You can spend hours browsing for your new favourite book in the book arch on Savignyplatz right next door.
