Yundi is one of China's most outstanding pianists and enjoys star status both in his home country and throughout Asia. In 2000, he gained international recognition when he became the first Chinese to win first prize, the gold medal, at the 14th Fryderyk Chopin International Piano Competition in Warsaw, at the age of 18. This award was not previously presented in the 1990 and 1995 competitions. This triumph catapulted Yundi onto the international stage.
Since then, Yundi has released highly acclaimed albums such as "Chopin Selections", "YUNDI Liszt", "Vienna Recital", "Selected Classics" and "Chopin Complete Nocturnes". He received invitations to perform at renowned venues such as Carnegie Hall in New York, the Royal Festival Hall in London, the Mariinsky Theater in St. Petersburg, the Musikverein in Vienna, the Konzerthaus in Berlin and the Alte Oper in Frankfurt. In 2019, he embarked on a 100-concert world tour titled “YUNDI Sonatas.” In May he will be a guest at the Philharmonie Berlin with his program “Yundi plays Mozart – Sonatas Project 1”.
