Sonus Feminæ #4
On 1 March 2025, the SONUS FEMINÆ concert series opens its season at Villa Elisabeth with the multi-faceted literary-musical evening THE WOMAN QUESTION. The focus is not only on Christine de Pizan's groundbreaking work ‘The Book of the City of Women’, a milestone of feminist literature from 1405, but also on the ‘Querelles des Femmes’, the heated gender dispute of the early modern period.

On this special evening, the Ensemble Cité des Dames will be supported by the guest ensemble tiefsaits.
The programme includes works from the collection of Margaret of Austria, compositions by Maddalena Casulana and Barbara Strozzi.
The works will not only be played, but also brought into a lively dialogue with historical text excerpts, which are brought to life by speaker Cathrin Romeis and allow the audience to immerse themselves in the debates and thought processes of the Middle Ages and early modern times.
In an enlightening lecture, Prof. Margarete Zimmermann offers additional insights into the historical and literary facets of the ‘Querelles des Femmes’.
This concert evening promises an impressive fusion of music, literature and science under the direction of Iñigo Giner Miranda, who takes the audience on an intellectually and artistically enriching journey.
